Default Blogging 52 Weeks

So I've decided to jump back on the band wagon and carry out a 52 project for 2011.

I have pretty much decided to go with one of Wordpress's free blog templates - I like their stuff. I've been doing some reading (I've never blogged before), and it all seems pretty straight forward.

A couple of questions for the experienced bloggers out there -

Is it considered good form to link to other people sites in one's own blog?
What's a pingback, what exactly does it acheive?

On the subject of a title, this is something I've only given about an hour's thought to, what do you think of

Click Fifty-Two
One woman's photographic journey through Twenty-Eleven.

Does that sound ridiculously pretentious?
Has 'journey' been too thoroughly overused in the blogging world to be considered?

Pingbacks are good take advantage of this feature!...

Pingback is a method for web authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. Typically, web publishing software will automatically inform the relevent parties on behalf of the user, allowing for the possibility of automatically creating links to referring documents.
For example, Kiwi writes an interesting article on her blog. Bob then reads this article and comments about it, linking back to Kiwi's original post. Using pingback, Bob’s software can automatically notify Kiwi that her post has been linked to, and Kiwi’s software can then include this information on her site.

Links it is good to link to others blogs/ /sites providing they are willing to link back you, it's the link-back thats going to help you the most by gaining more exposure.

If you are looking to drive traffic to your blog and possibly a seperate website, you will need to add content as well, pictures only won't beneift you much..

Thanks, Buddha. That makes sense.

I'm not sure how much traffic I need to this blog. It's really only for me to have somewhere to post my 52 project, and for interested family and friends to follow.
I do plan to write about the photos - I love writing, and am conceited enough to think I'm good at it.
That said, if I find interesting links that are related to the topic in hand I will post them too.

Thank you again for your help.

Cheers, Lisa

Click Fifty-two is a great title for your blog and a quick search suggests that nobody else has used it yet, so double points for that.

For links, definitely include links to any photos (and other things) that inspired you as you write about the process of creating each shot. You might also want to include a "blogroll" - links to other blogs that you follow, especially if related to the same topic. There is not any particular rule but links are good because they help create a web of knowledge that promotes fruitful exploration and discovery.

The title sounds good and like everyone said linking to someone's site or blog is fine because you'r giving credit and throwing them traffic. They will in turn usually throw traffic back your way. Congrats on the 52 profect, I started my 365 project this week to get even more use out of my camera.

Thanks Wulf and Nik. Your positive comments are really encouraging
Hopefully I'll have this thing up and running next week - watch this space!

Nik - best of luck with your 365. It's a hard slog, one at which I failed last year. I'm sure you'll do better than me

I'll be watching out, thanks LOL yeah I know it's hard this is my 3rd attempt LOL but this time I'm taking whatever I see instead of pressuring myself to get a great shot every time.

Oh, I know the feeling. My inability to get a great shot everytime is what made me fail last year, and why I decided on the 52 instead. Loads less pressure, much more chance to get that great shot if I have all week to work on it!
