When you go get this all sorted out I wouldn't mind seeing the pictures you came up with.

Thanks you guys, it definitely wasn't easy, the results came out to be less than amazing, but still they came out to be great portraits, with half the sense of being "powerful" in my personal opinion... It definitely lacked some mood, but I just finished my other assignment yesterday which was a self portrait which went quite well... I took two shots, myself looking into a mirror, and my mom also looking into the same mirror, then replaced the picture of my mom in the mirror with the picture of me looking into the mirror so I see the reflection of myself being my mother. I guess initially I couldn't think about how I could make the mood and create the portrait that would create a sense of it being powerful....

But anyway, I took some other shots... Haha was pretty fun, I did a little pose of myself in black and white, and I also did a silhouette of myself shooting with my 35mm camera.

the first association of the "powerful portrait" for me, was trying to capture someones expression, feelings, sincerity, sadness, happiness etc.
that's just my opinion. as an example here is something i consider as my powerful portrait sorrow | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
on the other hand, one may think that more important is technique you'll choose to take the portrait....

good luck
