Default Camera for a kid

I have a 2 year old who I've been shooting since she was born and she's not afraid of the camera at all, in fact, she likes it quite a bit. She likes to take pictures with our compact one, but it's quite expensive. Can anyone recommend a nice camera for a child? I was originally thinking a polaroid or something so she could see the pic immediately, but that might get expensive since she loves taking tons of pics. she has some of the cheapy ones that are for kids that don't take pics but have other stuff, and she likes them, but likes ours better, so i'm thinking a digital one for her might be fun, if it's relatively cheap and plastic.

you can just look out for a little digital, but really at that age id go for one of the Fisher Price ones.

I bought my son a fisher price one when he was 3 and watched to see how he took care of it, now that he is 5 and has only dropped it once since he got it, I have him a kodak P&S. So far he has not dropped it. LOL

I gave my six yr. old sister my Sony DSC H-50.
She's really into photography, and has already taken a few pics that I'm jealous of, LOL! She's only dropped it a couple of times, but the thing's a sturdy little P&S, it can handle a bit of abuse, sure got a lot when it was mine!

Not everyone is going to want to give a $350 camera to a kid though...........
I'd recommend a compact digital camera, under $100.

Have you thought about one of the Tough ones from Olympus (or one of the other brands)? Yes, a little more expensive than one of the fisher price ones, but if she is really, really into taking pictures, it might be worth it (better pictures of a quality you could print, would probably last longer, etc). The reason I'd suggest the Tough ones is because you can drop them, get them wet, basically they're tough little things that would more than survive a kid. I know other brands make similar ones, I have an Olympus one so that's what I'm familiar with. You might even be able to get a used one a bit cheaper.

Pentax make a tough one too, I love the ad for it

Theres a guy standing out in the wilderness by a river, he tries to take a photo of himself at arms length. Seeing another hiker on the other side he yells out "ooh" and skips the camera across the river to him with it ending up on the rocks. The guy takes a photo and attempts to skip the camera back, it just goes "plonk".

I wished they (FP) had a digital camera for kids. While vacationing in Florida back in 2002, my two youngest grabbed one of my EOS 1D's and started fighting over it near a swimming pool. I was just quick enough to grab the strap before one pushed the other into the pool. The next morning we went to the local camera store where I purchased both of them one of those Canon A-10's P & S for their very own.

I got one of these for our son at Christmas last year... he was 2 (2008) and honestly, I hate it. The quality is crud, it eats up AAA batteries... though yes, he can take it in the tub with him, I don't think it's good for helping kids get a serious start.

I attatched some of the "better" ones it took. I guess for around $60 I can't complain, it is tough and two years later it still works... but I don't think my son/step-sons took it seriously and its been in the toybox since.

The outside shots are a little better on it. Here are some my son took last Oct when we went to a pumkin farm.

Now this is love... this is me 8 mo pregnant squatting behind this thing so he could get a pic. LOL

These aren't going to win an award.. but for a toddler/small child, it gets them thinking about photography and seeing what the photos look like after taken!
