I've let my girlfrined use the Rebel, and I really don't care who uses my P&S.

Aint no way im letting anyone lose with my baby (well apart from really close family who i would trust with anything!)

Ask them if you can get drunk and borrow their car - im sure they would refuse!

I host a karaoke show, I know what its like to deal with drunks that think they know everything.

I tell people the reason I hold the camera is to be sure no one takes my picture! That politely tells half the people "no".

That leaves drunk strangers. If they dont except a polite no then I'll tell them they are too drunk to drive, much less operate a camera. Be persistant, DON"T hand hundreds or thousands of dollars to a stranger!! Would you hand them the keys o your car?!?

In the end remember, what is more important, You or a stranger?

Cant see why I'd need to lend a total stranger my camera . If I wanted to take photos of myself and wife I would of taken my tripod with me an done it that way . But on the other hand I've taken a few shots for people whilst out and about . Mainy groups of boys and girls on nites out who wants to be in the shot with friends. But I'm a trustworthy looking type of guy.

Some people, yeah, it depends.. Random drunk people, not a chance.
Of course I have 2 stories from our recent trip to Disney World, aside from handing the camera off to the official photogs to get group shots.. the first was that I was letting my little 11 yr old sis use my old Canon s230 elph, that i always have in my pocket, to get some pictures, she handed it back to me, used it again, then handed it to my mom who put it in her pocket, no biggie, until we get off a ride and hear a *thunk*, and the camera is gone.. it fell out of her pocket getting off the ride never to be seen again.. *sigh* now i get to replace my 5 yr old p&s with something newer that doesn't take CF so I have to get memory cards for it...

The other story was at Epcot they had a little Segway demo where people could do basic forward and backward and such on the Segways. My wife and I were doing this and I went to set down my camera off to the side and one of the instructors wanted me to hand it to him so I did and he took some fun pictures of us on the Segways.

Ha! Really? Drunk people wanted to use your camera?? That's a riot. Nope, no strangers have asked to use my camera, but I would be in the "no" boat with most others on that one. My sister has used my camera, but only in my presence and I made her sign a waiver first (no, I'm kidding). I don't loan out my lenses, but I think that I would if I had a friend who also had some cool lenses, appreciating them as much as I do, and we could swap for fun. I have asked a friend who is a professional to hold her camera once, which she was nice enough to let me do, and view some shots she had taken, but would never dream of asking to use her equipment. Tell those people to back off!! Step away from the camera before you shoot rapid successions of flash-shots into their eyes!!!

I would not let a stranger, let alone a drunk one, use my camera and I would have no problem saying a resounding NO WAY!
As far as family and friends, most of them take one look at the camera and they say NO WAY. They are used to point and shoot cameras.

Ha! That's the line I am using from now on!

Thanks everyone for your responses--good to see I am not the only one getting random requests from strangers.

My husband and I "share" the camera (I use the term "share" loosely because really I'm the one that's taking all of the pictures!).

Other than that, I don't let anyone else use it. My cousin did once when I first got it and that was fine because she's got a nicer camera than I do, so I was confident she'd handle mine with care. No one touches my baby!

Most people I know seem to be too intimidated by my camera for some odd reason. My father used it once to get a holiday photograph of me with my family. Otherwise, no one else has really asked. Plus, I'm never around drunk people to worry about them ... yeah, I have a boring life.
