This week I'm curious how many people on the forums are doing some form of a 365 challenge. There are many different 365's. There are some that focus on 365 self-portraits and there are others that focus on just taking a picture a day regardless of what it is of.
So, do you participate in one? And which kind do you participate in? Have you ever participated in one? Do you have a set from your 365? And if you have participated, what do you think is the most difficult part? Oh, and finally, if you started, did you finish it?

Yup... am part of the threesixtyfive group, stumbled on it by accident... glad I did... so yeah threesixtyfive of self portraits, thought I'd throw a twist in mine and make every shot based on music - a lyric, song title, artist, album... makes it harder and easier at the same time. I think the next one I do though I'll just run with it and not try to theme it.
Here's my progress so far for those that want a peek. The first few aren't music related (yet) as I decided that a few days in... I'll find lyrics that fit!

Nope... I was considering joining a fiftytwo group though... but some days of the week are just so busy, if I joined a 365 group I'd say probably about 2 days a week I wouldn't have time to post anything.

Technically, I guess I'm doing a 366 days, 366 photos project, since this year's a leap year. I'm not even a month in and some days it's difficult, but I should be able to stick with it. I find that I just take my SLR with me more places, and that it forces me to keep my eyes open and my brain a little more focused on photography. And the days I don't have much inspiration, I just break out the close-up filters and look for an interesting macro shot.
Project so far |

fiftytwo is enough for me at the moment. That gives me some of the learning benefits without imposing a daily burden.

We have a daily picture of our son on our blog. And since it is daily, I guess it is a 365 project. I admit we did great the first year, but this 365 we skipped about two weeks because I traveled without my son and took the camera with me. When I finally have enough $$ for my DSLR that won't be the case any more.

I started one doing self portraits, but then realized that I really don't like taking pictures of myself. So when February comes around on Friday I'm going to start a new one and do 366 different places I can leave my keys.

Threesixtyfive self portraits here. I started in fiftytwo, thinking that I wouldn't be able to do one a day. And it is actually easier to do one a day because I don't have to remember to do one once a week, if that makes any sense
![]() I joined to force myself to take pictures of myself as I normally am not in any pictures and don't really like seeing myself in the few pics we do have. It also forces me to keep the camera out, to think of new ideas and to try different lighting, poses and such as well as playing around with post processing here and there. It also meant I bought my wireless remote control a LOT sooner than I was going to. I also am determined to see this through to the end even though some shots are last minute snaps :-) Next time, however, I think I would prefer to do a plain 365 of any kind of picture, not just self portraits.

I'm currently taking part in the 365 days flickr group for self portraits. I'm at day 91 with no days missed.
When I'm all done I intend to make a photo book of the year, I think it will be great to look back on in years to come. I think once you are comfortable with the idea that not every photo is going to be a masterpiece it becomes a lot easier to do. Don't expect to spend ages composing and post processing each image and it becomes 'do-able'. People that say they would be 'too busy' are missing the point, you only need a moment to take a photograph and you do not have to post it online the day you take it. It's amazing how quickly you forget what you did on a day and how that one photo you snapped jogs your memory. |

Last year (Dec 2006) I started 365 blog, I did very well at one picture a day (a few days more) until I lost my camera on a trip to DC
then I missed days here and there, then a week or two before I got serious again and finished out the project properly. This year I am doing it again with my new DSLR. I have done a great job of taking pictures each day, but a couple times I have posted more than one a day at a time because I didn't get to the computer to post the day before. For me it is hard to narrow my posts down and just post one a day. I try to keep it to my best shot or most meaningful shot of the day, but too often I want to remember too much about the day and so my 365 blog becomes sort of a photo diary that includes my artistic thoughts as well as my daily activities. Here a link to my 365 blog for those interested.
