Default matte vs. glossy for prints

I ordered some prints from Winkflash recently and randomly chose between matte and glossy to see how I liked each, and I'm not sure .

The glossy prints have specular highlights at certain angles (which is why I totally hate glossy laptop screens, and why I love my Thinkpad screen ), and pick up fingerprints really easily. The latter wouldn't be as much of a problem once the prints are in frames, but that's not much of a solution because I'm currently just taping things directly to walls :P.

I suppose glossy's redeeming quality would be the same reason they're so popular for laptops - prettier colors. But I'm not sure I care - am I blind?

Is there some obvious pro or con I'm missing? Is there a "standard" for photographic prints? What do people here prefer?

Whoops. Could an admin please add "Don't care/Not sure" as a poll option?

I know, it's absolutely amazing for some shots. I have a night cityscape printed on metallic, and the depth is just fantastic.

It completely depends on the image. Some look better glossy some look better matte.
