Default Scenes From A Small Town

One of the great things I like about DPS is the many places others have taken me via the shots they have posted. I've been all over the world, thanks to DPS. Now I'd like to go to some small towns. There's something special about small towns. They have a style and culture that is unique. I thought it would be a great idea to have a place where we can all post Scenes From A Small Town. It can be any small town, whether you live there, work there, or are just visiting. You might feature some unique attraction, the local gathering place, or even the locals! Anything that you might add as explanation would be enjoyed by all. So let's go to some small towns!

I'll start by rehashing a post I did on SYS. I did a lot of research, so don't think you need to go in as much depth as this.

Let me introduce you to Winder, GA. (The i is long, as in wind up the clock)

The Winder area was occupied by creek indians and was known as Snodon. When white settlers started inhabiting the area in 1793, it was known as Jug and then ten years later as Jug Tavern. Just down from the depot is Fort Yargo State Park You've seen some posts from me of pictures I've made while at lunch at the park. The original fort, built in 1793 is still standing inside the park.

Duck Head apparel operated a plant in Winder, so if you bought Duck Head clothes anytime previous to the last 15 years, there's a chance they were made in Winder.

Our first picture is the old train depot, built in 1892. It is located at the intersection of the railroad tracks and Broad street, the original center of town.

Just up the street from the train depot is the courthouse. Here's a shot of a circus flyer stuck on a window. See Tatanka, the world's only performing buffalo at the National Guard armory. It doesn't get any more small town than that!

Every small town has its home team:

And of course, every Southern small town has its share of Victorian beauties

Okay, now let's see some of your favorite Scenes From a Small Town!

Good idea. Great shots! Love the first two! I'll have to dig out some of mine now

Small town: Milford, NH

This is a historic building along the oval in Milford, New Hampshire. It has many names, but is currently used as a church and American Legion meeting hall.

One of the most tranquil places I've been. Emerson Park in Milford, New Hampshire hosts this scenery -- an old stone bridge where the river makes its way to the mill. Gorgeous!

I definitely love this idea. I am going to have to take some shots of my town (Grant, population 800). I am going to have some fun with this one!

My hometown, Calistoga, CA, boasts a population of less than 4500 people (which is about 1000 less than I remember). I went home in October for the first time in almost 10 years.

This is standing on the edge of grandma's driveway, the start of the city limits:

The only shot in town I got, was of the old Calistoga Hospital.

This Old House

Of course, it wouldn't be the Napa Valley without some vineyard shots. This was also taken while I was standing in grandma's drive way:

Jo,
Those are so cool! I love to see places like Willy's and what in the world are those brooms by the railroad tracks about?

Charlie,
Love those pictures of Milford. The bridge is positively stunning and the old church looks like it has some real history.

Velvet, i would love to see Calistoga someday. I think it would be cool to buy that old hospital and fix it up for a place to live. The stone front and wood detail are something else. Thanks for showing it to us.
