  • Stars in Joshua Tree

For this shot I set up on my tripod next to our campsite in Joshua Tree. The fire lit the foreground pretty nicely. I shot this at ISO 1600, f/2.8 and 30" shutter speed with long exposure noise reduction on. Once I got it on the computer the only thing I did was sharpen and adjust the black point slightly.

When shooting the stars remember your normal composition rules, it is especially important to have a foreground element.

I wrote out a more general tutorial on shooting the stars on my blog but this is the short version. I figured most people on here probably already know most of it.
