    Assignment: Doesn't Quite Belong

I noticed on our clothes line we have mostly yellow pegs, but there is only one white one which seems a little incongruent in the line-up. I used a black foam rectangular board to hide the backgound with a split cut half way across the middle to attach to the line behind the last peg. I made a composite of this with a plain blue background and adjusted the blend until I had something akin to what was in my mind! I find these assignments good fun for ideas and learning new processing methods.

                      Assignment: Doesn't Quite Belong

When I saw the title for this assignment, I knew exactly what I wanted to capture. Every fall, this birch tree stands out from the crowd of fir, hemlock, and cedar with its bright yellow leaves and white bark. It seems out of place, and, in fact, its seed may have come from higher on the ridge and been planted 23 years ago when an avalanche came down in this location. The birch trees are special...we are losing them to disease, so I wonder how much longer this one will survive.
