I don't know if this was a past assignment or not but how about a sports photography assignment? I have seen a few people talk about this on the forum.
Let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

          I like the wind idea.
How about rain? It often rains here in England, and with the days only getting worse it is only going to get rainier. It might spark some inspiration.

I keep a notebook with a list of ideas to inspire me. Would any of these be helpful?

ooh these are all wonderful. Thanks.

Expect to see some over the next week or two. Will probably limit it to a few a week (don't want to overwhelm everyone).

an local online photography group that i'm a part of came up with a list of their own themes. maybe we can use some of them here.

here's a sample of what they've already done in terms of theme suggestions:
                    1) Interesting Eye
                    2) Water Drops
                    3) What is Christmas all about
                    4) Only in the (insert country)
                    5) Traffic
                    6) Song Title
                    7) Road Sign

how about the zoo? It's an easy place to get great photos (all the better if you can't tell it was taken at a zoo). It's also a good way to learn to take pics of moving objects.

I would like to see a Birthday theme... The reason is because I am always so BORING when I take pics at birthday parties and such... I could use a bit of inspiration and/or see some creative examples of wonderful birthday pics...

a couple ideas off the top of my head:

                          -long exposures
                          -portraits
                          photoblog
                          flickr

                            thought of a couple more:

                            -fireworks
                            -reflections
                            -ice
                            -snow
                            -clouds, sky

are you thinking more of a photofriday.com assignment, where it's somewhat open for interpretation, or a learning assignment type thing, where you're given hints on how to do it and you have to go execute?

A "What the heck is that" assignment. I am not talking about a motion blur or some camera trick. I am talking about what you’re photographing. The first thing that pops into their head when someone looks at the photo is "What the #$@# is that?" Then you could explain what “That” is.
