Default Help!

I may have a newborn, well baby photo shoot coming up and the Mom prefers to do the shoot inside. I have no lighting what so ever, I'll buy an on board flash (is that what they are called? LOL) and diffuser this weekend.

I need so much help, I am not even sure what to ask. I know how to make 1.5 year olds and up smile - but I am not sure about the poses for someone as young as three months old. I have looked at other sites, but all I see are props. Should I go out and buy a black table cloth...and then Photoshop stuff in? And if so, where do I get that stuff - free?

Signed, excited, scared and confused!

Natural lighting and reflectors are your friend...

How old is the baby?

She is three months old. I do not have a reflector either...argh! Who knew this would make me so rich and poor at the same time...

Rich in experience that is...

You can use white foamboard as a reflector.

At three months, she's not really moving too much so you can do some of the laying on a pile of towel shots and mom holding baby over shoulder shots, or mom holding baby...

Black backdrop and mom wearing black long sleeves. If there's other siblings, include them too.

Pat, I've referenced this site for other posts on baby photography, but check it out...she's a local photographer, as a matter of fact, she moderated a "Creative Headshots" workshop this past weekend that I attended. It was a blast.

If you check out the latest set of baby shots on my Flickr, they were all taken inside. I used a cheap black fleece blanket as the backdrop, and my lighting was a set of $40 industrial halogen work lamps from the hardware store. I put a 100W bulb in and positioned a few feet away from the baby. Window light coming from one side

If that fails just by a few yards of black fleece from a discount fabric store. I spent $5NZ on my blanket!

As far as lighting you can get Some bulbs through B&H. Here http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...50W_120V.html#
Then some clip on lights from the hardware store (these usually run $10 -$20) and clip them in spots were you can reflect them off the ceiling or walls. I use black or white fleece in most of my baby shoots and they turn out well. I also picked up some black velvet. I have found getting 5 yards gives me the flexability I need with it. I the fact that it is not a actaul "Blanket" you pay less for just the fabric. Most of my back drops are fleece and the one's that aren't don't work well with small children and baby's. And good luck!
Here is some of my work!
