This is nothing more nor less than an outright copyright grab

The terms are one of the worst I have seen from a competition for a long long time.

I will be posting these terms on various boards to warn others not to go anywhere near this competition.

I would be lying if I said I didn't laugh out loud at this. Nicely done +Grant Collier.

PHOTO CONTEST!

I'm holding an exciting new photo contest! It's called "Give Grant Collier Your Photo" Contest. Please share this, as I really need to get the word out.

The rules are simple:
Send me your very best photos and give me a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, unrestricted, worldwide license to the photographs.

The winner will be determined by whoever can beg enough people on their Facebook / Twitter pages to vote for their photos. This is the only fair way to select a winner, as it will ensure that even the worst photos have a chance of winning. More importantly, it will give lots of extra publicity to the contest and to my companies (Colorado Photography, Nature, Landscape Images, Utah, photos, pictures and Colorado Photography Festival, nature & wildlife workshops), and it will convince more suckers, er, I mean photographers, to give me their photos in the future.

I'll give away some token prize to the winner if I can get a sponsor to give me one. If not, I'll post the winning photo here, where it will be seen by tens, maybe even hundreds of people, and you will gain instant fame and celebrity. Then I'll use your photos forever without paying you a dime.

Sound shady? Don't worry, it's not. Many reputable companies, including National Geographic, the New York Times, Disney, Outdoor Photographer, Popular Photography, Time Warner, Adobe, Canon, Fuji, Audobon, The Nature Conservancy, the Sierra Club, and the National Parks Foundation, have done the same thing.

I like that they used the word "exploited" in the terms.....doesn't get much clearer than that!

I haven't seen one in a while...

Honestly, I can't say I blame them.....
With so many on Flickr etc with decent gear who would be thrilled just to get a pic published anywhere....why would you ever pay for a stock/private photo again?

Hell, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while. There's plenty to pick from.

There are loads of legit contests around all you have to do is make sure you read the entry terms thoroughly though.
check out this site which lists hundreds. Photography Competitions - Photo Contests - Photo Awards

I am not guaranteeing the veracity of any of them though, you have to check them out yourself.

"Legit"?
I guess it depends on the definition.... I took a quick gander because I was curious...And many(but not all) left all copyright to the photographer. But DAMN! I wish I had thought of that!

They're mostly "photographic raffle contests".

You send me money for entry, along with a bunch of other people. I will select a couple winners and give them a "prize"...maybe even a little bit of all the money I collected.
