So how'd you do with The Economy? Around the world the economy is effecting us in many different ways. Did you come up with a shot that illustrates it in some way. It can be a personal shot or take your camera for a walk and see what you can find.
Mine: Affordable Housing ![]() As always, rules: Please note the change in closing time. Just a note to new posters: DO NOT start a new thread for your post. Please just hit the reply button at the bottom of any current post and put your image there. 1. Your original image you submit should be taken between the 28th of October and the 11th of November. Each week as an assignment closes on the Wednesday, it will be AUTOMATICALLY deemed *CLOSED* after 8am GMT ( 3am EST) and any posts after that time will not be eligible for the assignment competition. Don't wait until the last minute to post! [B] 2. Your post must include "Assignment: The Economy" (to show your permission to count it for the contest) and the date the picture was taken (to show that it is a valid entry). 3. EXIF data should be intact. It helps if you can include the main points (including camera, lens, date taken, ISO, shutter speed and aperture) in the text of your message. 4. Only one entry per member (if you can't restrain yourself until the end of the first week you can post two or three separate pictures but your entry should be in a separate post and the only marked with the text above). It must be an original image taken by you. 5. Remember the cross-site image size limit (800px on the longest side). 6. If the image does not exist in post at the end of the contest, it is disqualified. If you modify anything on flickr and re-save the image then the link is broken and the message needs edited to link the picture again before it will be included in the contest. For everyone, please do not repeat other people's photos by quoting them until the contest is over. If you want to comment on or discuss an entry you can use a link to it (or just delete the picture from the quoted text). 7. If you are looking for the winners of the mini-contest, please check the front page of the DPS blog Saturday late afternoon (EST) and here. Photography is such an interesting visual medium. This coming week I want you to see if you can show something that is difficult to see, in a word "Sound." Try to find a way to take a shot that depicts sound of some kind. Can you use a visual medium to depict something that often can't be seen? |

Breaking The Bank
![]() A white piggy bank on a black background can also be seen here. I was going to use a hammer, but wanted a clean white edge for possible use in stock photography. Used a sound trigger with a 50 millisecond delay, but probably should have used 100 milliseconds for a bit more separation. Date Taken: November 3, 2009 Camera: Canon EOS REBEL T1i Lens: Canon 55-250mm IS Exposure: 2.5 Aperture: f/14.0 Focal Length: 55 mm ISO Speed: 100 Flash: 580exII at 6 o'clock, 1/32 power 430exII at 4 o'clock and 1 foot above, 1/32 power Adjustments in LR to brighten background and remove shadows.

Times are really tuff here locally. Many businesses have closed and ways of life have been lost. Seems like you can't go anywhere without seeing a person in need asking for help. That is my inspiration for this photo. Even thou this shot is spoofing, it is not ment to offend. I ment to show how ALL walks of life, even photographers, have fallen on hard times.

Hello everyone,
I think this is a good example of an economical aspect (Child Labour) Too bad I can't use this for the assignment because this picture have been taken three weeks ago but I am still thinking of another idea to share with you. ![]() My cousin was playing with the brush and I thought it would make a good shot |

![]() I went today to our local "ghost town" to get some shots that demonstrate the economy. There are about 20 or more unfinished abandoned homes. A couple of years ago a building company purchased a huge amount of land and decided to build new homes. The homes were sold and money was put down on them before they were finished. The builders went bankrupt and everyone who invested money in these homes lost everything. And to make it even better the township slapped those little pink "no occupancy" signs on the doors...so even if the home owners wanted to move in a finish the houses themselves...they can not. It is a very sad situation. I did take a lot of photos and I'm posting them on my flickr. There are even some areas where the foundation was laid but that was it. There are roads that lead to no where, piles of unused foundation block and debris everywhere. The houses have been sitting like this for well over a year. Some of the areas of the "ghost town" I didn't even want to venture into...even for a photo. Toooo quite, desolite and abandoned. Camera: Sony DSC-H1 Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/1000) Aperture: f/4.5 Focal Length: 6 mm ISO Speed: 64 Flash: Off, Did not fire Exposure Program: Aperture-priority AE Date and Time (Original): 2009:11:04 12:30:58-05:00 Last edited by Sweedon; 11-04-2009 at 05:46 PM. |

Wow, how sad, seems like this would be a place a little stimulus money could go along way! Such a waste. Nice shot though and very fitting for the assignment. Last edited by fbroschart; 11-04-2009 at 07:57 PM. Reason: spelling |
