Even in market listing, I found that Digital Camera (Point-and-Shoot) and Compact Digital Camera are different categories. But I really don't understand the differences. Can anyone describe them for me?

Where? It could just be a particular market marking things oddly.

I find it almost everywhere on the net. I can't look up now, though. Very tired.

It's the form factor of the body;

Digital just means it's a camera that uses a sensor instead of film.
Digital compact is just another way of saying "point and shoot".

I wasn't clear now that I re-read my reply, sorry.
A super zoom or bridge camera is still a point and shoot but not a compact. The term Digital Camera is often used to categorize anything outside of an SLR in the big box stores. The truth is just as inkista said, anything that uses a sensor instead of film is a digital camera including our DSLR's. A compact has the smallest form factor of them all. Not all point and shoots with SLR style bodies are super zooms or have the functionality of bridge cameras, but they are too big to fit within the form factor of compact cameras. The compact term defines the cameras that have some of the smallest sizes. Last edited by Deleted; 03-24-2011 at 01:47 AM. Reason: Typing too fast... DSLR not DLSR, lol |

I wrote a blog entry about the differences in digital camera types:
