Neither Sony nor Nikon is considered a technology leader in digicams. They both seem to be putting their design money into their DSLRs. Olympus has the same problem.

The clear technology leaders for digicams today are Canon and Panasonic. Those two brands are way out in front of the other digicam manufacturers as far as technology goes.

Also consider the prevailing brand influence where you live. Some brands are not supported or some are flooding the market. Go for the strong brand in your area so you will have local support when something goes wrong.
Cheers!

Disagree. As a retail salesman for all digital cameras (sadly focusing on the smaller P&S cameras), the Nikon cameras have certainly caught up and were, at one time, better than canons. That was a while ago, but as I said, the NIkons have caught up.

The new cameras coming out following PMA should be VERY nice indeed.

Of the 2, I'd opt for the Nikon
