Here's what Stitch Assist looks like (I stole the image off a creativepro.com article)
![]() I got really used to it with my S30, and it was my introduction to photostitching. The stitch assist, however, never quite managed to help me keep from vertically "drifting" when I shot 360 cylindrical panos. Then when I got my XT, I suddenly realized I was going to have to fly without Stitch Assist mode (no live preview is probably what nixed it). But it was surprisingly easy to just visualize the overlap. I was even able to do the following pano handheld, with my 60mm Macro: (full-sized) I shot 27 images in a 9x3 grid, and stitched it with Calico. There were only two problems: the balloon moved between shots, so I got a ghosted image there. And Flickr (at the time) had a maximum file size of 30MB. The "full-sized" image I put up is actually only a quarter of the final stitched image size. One of the huge benefits of stitching panoramas is increased resolution. Max Lyons has a terrific website if you want to find out about gigapixel high-resolution panos. BTW, if you're a Mac geek--it was one of Max Lyon's high-res panos that Steve Jobs used to demo how much more quickly the OSX version of Photoshop could chew through pixels (vs. a Windows version) in (iirc) a MacWorld keynote.
