What is it about the composition that you're asking about? If you know the lady in question can you not ask her directly? If you're talking about editing the pictures then this thread needs to be in the post processing area, not composition.

How to take pictures like that.... well....
1. Learn how to perfectly expose a well focussed picture.
2. Learn how to do it all over again, but backlit, with the subject perfectly exposed.
3. Learn how to capture sunflare nicely.
4. Learn how to do urban, edgy PP and textures.

Sorry to be cheeky. The PP uses a lot of deep urban-style color, and lots of warm tones, possibly some cross processing. There are loads of ways to do that type of thing. I suggest learning to use Curves, Levels, Color Balance and the burn tool in PS. The one of the woman and baby possibly has a little texture too, there are tutorial links for that in the PP section.

looks like some cross process...erm... process, and some mild, almost unobvious vignetting effect. cross process - it is a process. when you start editing it to go this style, the colors will look really weird at first, just as the same deal with developing film cross process like, but it will come out edgy and nice in the end.

but then again, there are photoshop scripts/macros and downloadable lightroom presets that lets you do the exact same thing. a similar effect >>> you might also be interested in "velvia". look it up ^_^
