Default Can anyone help me real quick

My husband wants me to take a picture like the top left hand corner of this site.
The one with the man tuning the piano, well

I will be taking it in a church, not sure what settings to use, all i have is the camera and the flash on the camera. Everytime i take pics indoors they never turn out good.

any help will be appreciated.
i have to do this in a few hours, he just sprung it on me for his brochure.

Well, for one it looks like the photographer might have used one or more off-camera flashes/strobes/lights. The interior of the piano might have even had a light just for itself with a filter on it to make it warmer than the other flashes (redder in color).

The flash on your camera is kind of like a light grenade. It gets the job done, but it isn't subtle and just kind of blasts everything with light. To get shots like the piano tuner, you have to control the light which usually means getting your light source off of your camera first. However, you might be able to get similar results with some halogen utility lamps and bedsheets as light modifiers. I'm still trying to get a handle on that myself, so maybe some of the other people here can help out.

you will not be able to achieve this effect unless you have some off camera sources of lighting. I can see at least three different sources of lighting in the image (not counting the door) There is a light shining down from above that is the main light for the subject. There is a light to camera left and there is another light directly behind the person acting as a rim light. With just the on camera flash you will not be able to achieve the same effect.

Do what I did for the directory photos.. go to Home Depot, Lowes, whatever you have around and get a couple of cheap small shop lights. These work better for the whites than turning on the lights in the Church anyway. As much as you can try to get some of the natural lights in as well... not sure what options you have but the shop lights worked decently well for my uses.

I think she may need to take stock of the coloring too. I feel like the overhead and the left-side lights are tungsten, and the one behind him is white.
