Finding the photo within the scene (Composition Examples)?

Hi All,

Let me preempt my post by saying that I've done a fair amount of searching on DPS and through Google and, while there is tons of information there, I couldn't find quite what I was looking for and hence the post.

Ok..now on to my question..

Could you direct me to information (online or print) on finding the photo within a scene. I see a scene and struggle with finding the right composition for it. Now I know composition is something that is inherently felt, may not be able to be taught/learnt and is what distinguishes the greats from the averages. Yet, if there was some resource that could show examples of a scene and then explain how the photographer chose to photograph it because of this and this reason and using these settings, that would help immensely.

Dont know if someone would want to give up trade secrets like this, but I'm hoping something exists.
