Default Where'd My EXIF Info Go?

I got an 'ExifRead 'ver.3.0 , that used to display my settings- at least- some of the time, when I had my FujiFilm P&S. Now I got a new Nikon P50 P&S and all I get is the photo to show and a message: "The reader has a problem reading the file" any suggestions? No, I can't afford a DSLR...yet.
Thanx~James

Have you tried any different exif viewers to see if one of them works for you? There are tons of free ones out there Congrats on the new camera by the way

If you're in Windows, right click the file->Properties->Summary Tab->Advanced Button. It's not the most convenient thing in the world but I'll let you know if the data is coming off the camera OK and if it's a problem with your viewer.

Thank You. Some limited info. is there (in summary.) But I still get the error message, when I try to use the exif program: "EXIF could not open file." There is another line that identifies: "LEAD Technologies." I'll keep foolin around with it. Or uninstall and find another one?

I would probably just go for another one... ExifRead looks very back alley-ish to me

Take a look at exiv2, or a Firefox plugin called Exif Viewer. I use both and have no problem with either

Thank You Sir: <And you all that pieced my life together>I've installed the add on, so far. And in doing so I found out that I'll need to preserve exif data before I go foolin around in post Just a little 'auto correct' on a photo will erase the exif data. So now I'll look the 'exiv2' over good-that one's a bit more involved- and see if it has that 'data preserve' feature.
I hope this helps someone else too, good day

well, that depends. every editing program is a little different, but this is how it works in photoshop...

"Save for Web" -> removes EXIF
"Save" and "Save As" -> retains EXIF

could be something similar in the program you are using, if its not photoshop. another thing, if there is a "preserve metadata" checkbox in the save screen, make sure that is checked, as the EXIF information is metadata.

Like glyphon said, it depends on the editing software. The resources I gave you are really just exif data viewers. You can edit exif data with exiv2, but that can be tricky. what kind of editing software are you using?

Well, I loaded 'GIMP' a week or so ago, but I've only used it once -to selectively recolor parts of a photo (that's really cool stuff! But for general editing I use the very simple ' Microsoft Office Picture Manager.' and ' Paint.' I have learned the best way to go is to get the data before I do anything. Thanx James

Thanks on the new camera, but I'm not loving it, just yet. Lot more modes and options to work with tho. Auto mode just don't cut it -with this camera (Nikon P50 p&s)
I did find I was deleting the data, in editing, by not electing to save it. And I do still need another reader; I've got a couple and I'm on track now.~James
