Default Eclipse

Hello, I am a newbie when it comes to digital photography. I recently purchased a Rebel Xti for taking pictures of my daughter and now am becoming a bit more hooked than I thought.

This week there will be a full lunar eclipse and I want to take a really great shot of it, I figure with this type of shot I really only have one chance so I want to do it right.

What I want is one of those shots where you see the moon in different phases and colors not a white streak going across the sky. Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this, I have lightroom and photoshop but am a novice with both of those.

Thanks for the help
Eric

Thanks for the question Eric. I came here to ask the same thing (I'm in West Palm Beach). Hopefully, someone will give us some pointers.

This question is also why I came here. I'm planning to take my kids out to watch the eclipse tonight and I hope to get some good shots. I'm wondering what settings I should be thinking about using to get the best shots.

As to the OP, what you are talking about sounds like taking multiple photos and then combining them in PhotoShop. I did something similar with this photo (and there's a quick explanation of how on that page.)

Like Michelle said, your best bet is combining in photoshop after the fact. There are some tips from a different lunar eclipse in this thread Hope to see some pics from you after Wednesday!

Hope everyone has a good tripod. I am going to buy another one today so that I can use two camera bodies one for a wider angle time lapse type shot as described by elewis and one for closeups.
