Default Partial Solar Eclipse from Sydney

Hi,

There was a partial solar eclipse that was visible from Sydney. We only got to see 11%, but hey, an eclipse is an eclipse.

The problem was the clouds, the weather was fairly bad in Sydney but still a few holes in the clouds came around.

The following was shot with a Pentax *ist DS and 600mm Sigma Mirror Lens. I used Baadar Solar Film.

Because of the clouds I managed only 3 worthwhile shots and have composed them into one picture so as to show the phases.

Did anyone else manage to get a few shots of the eclipse, or a previous one??

Partial Solar Eclipse - plus the stupid clouds <img src=

Regards

Daniel...

Cool. Looks like someone took a bite out of it. Interesting pink color, was that from the clouds?

Here's my compilation from the eclipse in February.

WOW! with some pp that would make an awesome background for the PC. Maybe we should have a section for that here in the forum?

Good try Kljucd - hey you cant dpo much if the weather is against you - you still managed to get some decent shots.

Denise great shots - you should have include the exif data though.

Do we need a speial filter to take eclipse photos or Can I just point the lens at the sun without risking damage to the lens?

"Baadar Solar Film" is this a filter ?

Cheers

Sorry, but the EXIF data is different for each photo I took. This was a composition, meaning I used many pictures and then grouped them in GIMP.

Most shots, though, were at f/5.6, ISO 200, and from 1/2 sec to 1 sec exposure, using my 70-300vr at around 300mm.

What I have heard about shooting the sun is that it can damage your sensor, so you wouldn't want to do it if it were completely bright. I've only photographed one solar eclipse, and I shot it through a welder's mask.

Ofcourse Denis how silly of me - we take combination photos for grant and sometimes knowingly forget that its not a single image

Thanks for sharing the overall exif though.

I knew you might have used a welders mask for your eyes but using that for your lens as well was ingenious (never thought of that)

I wonder if a 4 stop ND filter might do the trick for lens ( as you said lens are too important & costly to take a chance with)

Cheers
