I can not remember, it was 2004,
but then I experiment with filters in Photoshop, not Photoshop Elements.
I think I worked without crop

wow - more gorgeous samples. As you can see the end result is very dependant on the initial photo. Thanks for sharing everyone. Looking forward to seeing more.

I kept looking at these and drooling over them, but I only have GIMP, and the instructions didn't work for Gimp. Sigh. THEN, I discovered an amazing plug-in for Gimp called (strangely enough) Amazing Circles. It does just what you described, but works for those of us with GIMP! I did a little happy dance and created this below! What a good day! (The plug-in can be found here.)

Default Swirly Stuff

This is too much fun! Enough that I made an action for it in photoshop. I'm sure I'll be playing a lot more with this. Thanks for the heads up on it/

This one is a lotus pod, that I duped and did multiply on the second layer.

Actually I found I like non squared swirls too, A dew covered leaf.

And my favorite so far, a bunch of twist off top bottles.

To Person Above^^
The twist tops one is awesome! The rest are good too, but look kinda fakey(sorry), but sounds like a cool technique.
