Default Grandma ...

Here are some changes with GIMP.

The original

The post-processed one

1) rotate the picture to have a good horizon line;
2) use clone tool to delete unwanted persons in background;
3) enhance local contrast to compensate exposure in back lightning;
4) a little touch of sharpness with High pass filter.

Welcome...I like your picture and PP. Just enough and still leave Grandma as she is!

Default Thank you

Thank you !

I see that you use GIMP with UFRaw, I tried to use UFRaw but I think I've done something wrong because I had terrible results ... :-(

I will give it a new try.

In image 1, is there some sort of lighting above Grandma?

Image 2 is too bright for my taste and Grandma's warm feeling is lost.

Agree with above ..... give Grandma a bit of warm and maybe some gaussian blur to reduce her wrinkles?

I like wrinkles. Don't erase 'em! I do think gramma might benefit from a bit more warmth though.

Nice photo!

Absolutely love the picture and you did a great job with the editing..nothing too obvious. only thing besides the warming is you seemed to lose quite a bit of contrast in the shadows when you lightened the overall image and in this case where you're celebrating age...I think a bit of contrast would enhance the picture JMO
