Default High Pass Filter

I have been working a lot on the studio lately and have found that my pictures have been lacking the punch that I was looking for. Although I was happy with the pictures themselves they seemed to fall short of the level I was after.

Tonight my daughter woke me at 1am having a nightmare [thanks to Roald Dahl's BFG!] she is tucked up asleep and now im processing pictures - wide awake!!

Anyway, i got onto looking at tutorials on you tube, and came across this one... YouTube - Caslys Edgy Photoshop Technique

I gave it ago and think it takes my image a step up.

What do you think;

BEFORE

AFTER

I find the white bar with your name on it quite distracting. I like the way her eyes pop more, but overall I think the effect is a tad too strong.

PS: is that your daughter?

Try just doing the high pass without the overlay and with the settings 20%,20,0. It will "De-fog" the image. I use it as a smart filter on the original image so I can add or subtract later. Plus you can change the blend mode of the the filter.

I don't like the way her eyes look in the PP image. It looks totally fake, IMO.

The eyes in the first image can be blamed on overdone makeup. The eyes in the second image are just ... weird.

Thanks, I will have a look at it.

The name ribbon is just a copyright mark, wouldnt appear on a final image.
