Default Removal of barbed wire, (was asked to post this before and after))

I posted this photo on share your shots and was asked to post how i did it...

Now, one thing i will say before you try this, it can take a long time, it can be frustrating and u will most likely want to give up at some point lol.. but as with anything time and effort can really make a difference to something so just stick with it.

Here's the before..

and the after..

aww the baby...

Now there is more than the removal of barbed wire going on here but i ill deal with that first.

Really its very simple and just heavy use of the clone tool on photoshop (or other similar tool in other programs).

First make a duplicate layer.. this is more of a backup encase you clone over something you didn't want or want to remove small sections of the cloned layer to reveal details from the original.

Now for the cloning, for me i find it best to use a small brush with around a 70% opacity.. this way u can double click the area if u want to do a complete clone like in the photo below, but for other area's were u say don't need a specific feature to match, you can then get better results from cloning sections from different area's into the one spot to help avoid having the same features say in gravid/dirt popping up all over the place.

After a few hours of work on this photo at least i managed to remove the barbed wire and the photo is much better for it, thats all there is to it really you just have to take your time and just take the photo sections at a time.

As for what else i did to the photo, i tone mapped the photo mostly caring about the horse's texture (check HDR stuff for how to do it)
small.jpg
wich i then used as an overlay onto the original with a % based on what i felt looked good. I then de fished the image (this can be found in filters, distort, lens correction) and cropped to my liking... done all the cloning and eventually duplicated the layer again and converted the new layer to B/W and lowered the red channel while doing so.

I then overlayed this ontop and masked everything but the wooden pole on the right just to make it look darker and more contrasty (it was flat and bright looking) i then took a brush with around 20% opacity and started to unmask some of the ground.) Changed the layer blending % to taste.

After all that i flattened the img, duplicated it again and ran the highpass filter.. wich i then overlayed at around 70% just to sharpen the photo.

I hope this helps anyone and thanks for looking

Default Horses

Great job! You have to take your time to do something that detailed. Did you ever consider cropping out the pole or cloning it out? Regardless...love the photo.
