Default My before and after [selective colour]

Here's my first submisson and it's one of my best before and after's if I do say so myself.

I think it's pretty self explanatory, but the what I did's was:

Using PhotoShop CS2 I removed the guy and the dog along with the date/time stamp using the patch and blend tools.

Using the magnet select too, I selected the yellow, and selected the inverse and made it black and white.

I use opitikVerse Labs filters for the black and white.

The shot was taken with at Kodak EasyShare Z700, using the beach preset settings.

The end result is much more dramatic shot.

To begin with, I'm not a fan of selective coloring. BUT, I appreciate something that is well done.

I would desaturate the yellow a little, it is a little too bright. When you cloned out the guy and dog in the background, you missed the reflection in the water.

My $.02

I like your edit Todds

However, rather than just outright turning the photo B&W apart from the yellow jumper, try instead doing the following

Take the original image as 1 layer
Do all your improvements that you said before such as removing the other people and all that. But don't turn the image B&W or cut out the jumper just yet.
Now duplicate the layer, so you have just 2 identical layers of this new improved image.
On the top layer cut around the yellow jumper, and delete the jumper in the top layer. You will of course still be able to see the jumper because of the layer beneath.
Now select the top layer (if its not already selected) and press "Ctrl + I" OR do "image >> Adjustments >> Invert".
Now the image will look a bit weird apart from the yellow jumper in the middle.
So, again on the top layer, change the layer blending mode to "color" and drop the opacity of the top layer to about 40% (give or take 10%).
You should be pleased with the results

Smile Love it

So the first thing I did was follow John's directions and here's the finished product.

I didn't spend as much time removing the guy and the dog so it's a little rough, but I just wanted to see the effect.

I love it, and will now add this edit trick to my arsenal!

Glad you like it
I actually got that technique off someone on here so i can't really take any credit for it Forgotten who that person was though

As you can see that whilst desaturating the colors it just helps keep a little bit of colour and depth there
