Unhappy Seaside Lighthouse

Taken from the cliffs @ Cape Spencer, New Brunswick. This was one of the first shots I tried some post production on. I've read ( here ) about exposing for either the subject or the sky and fixing in PP. So I exposed for the lighthouse and added some back light to show the sky more.

Adjusted the saturation and a wee little bit of Fake Tilt Shift.

I know the white on the lighthouse is a tad blownout, but again, one of my first PP attempts.

Not looking for a full out critique but more of a 'is it too much'? Feedback would be appreciated.

EXIF Data

Taken with Pentax K10D
Flash not fired
Focal Length 18.0mm
Exposure 1/125
Aperature F6.7
ISO 100
Metering Mode centered
Exposure Bias 0.00EV
White Balance manual

P.S. I will have my Flickr account going soon so it makes looking @ my pics easier. Sorry for Imageshack

I love the colors; they are bright, lively, and the definition of saturated. The problem is my eye (and mind) is screaming that they are not real... What look where you going for? That intense red is what is throwing me for a loop.

Also, I am not seeing the tilt shift?

EDIT: I hope you don't mind the pictures posted here, they are the same ones linked to your imageshack..

Welcome Maritimer. I like what you have done - it is much improved and I don't think it's over done. Just starting out with post processing and you're already on the right track. Good job

tickintime :

The look... hmmm good question lol. I was actually just trying to bring out the colours a bit more and make the sky look more blue than the dull hazy colour it was. I thought, as well, that it does look a bit 'not real'.

The fake tilt shift I added was very very slight as I found it was oversaturating the red too much. Thanks for the feedback though, appreciate it

photofun :

Thanks for the kind words. At least I know I'm starting in the right direction for PP. Don't have the money ( yet ) for Photoshop so I'm just using PhotoScape for now.

I was just curious where you were heading so we know what kind of feedback to give. I love the sky and rest of the scenery, it is just that intense red. LOL

Maybe darken it a little without affecting the rest of the photo. It is a very nice shot, and I think it is worlds better in the after. Maybe red is just diagreeing with me today. I did wear very lifeless colors to work...

I think I'll have another go at this one soon, cause that red really does kinda blast your eyes out lol. Again, I was just trying to make the overall photo better looking than the original and wanted to know what people thought of this shot.

Thanks for the feedback comments though guys

p.s. got my flickr account going now so... no more Imageshack attachments yay!

I love lighthouses. I've got hundreds of shots of ours.

Here my try at an edit.

you mentioned a backlight.. i'd reduce the opacity of the backlight.. that way the colors wont be AS intense. but its cool.. i like the sky..
