Overdone building for print
I'm mostly posting this here killing time waiting for my print to arrive in the mail. I think it's supposed to come today. I had read a few places that overdoing it a bit could lead to good results when it comes back from the printer, so I went a bit farther than I normally would.
Original This is the first pass just to fix some colors and dust: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mister_guy/2447261698/" title="Windows by mister.guy, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2389/2447261698_7f8c92622e.jpg" width="500" height="348" alt="Windows" /></a> And this is kicked up a notch: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3024/...bf76f02743.jpg I went with the metallic processing option at MPix because it sounded really intriguing to me. Can't wait for it to get here and see how it comes out! Camera: Pentax K110D Exposure: 0.001 sec (1/800) Aperture: f/9 Focal Length: 50 mm ISO Speed: 200 Exposure Bias: 0/10 EV Flash: Flash did not fire All I basically did once I cloned out the dust was bump up the blue and green channel at the expense of the red. Then I more or less followed the tone-mapping for the Gimp guide to add some sharpness to the texture in the clouds and buildings: I copied the layer twice, and converted the top to greyscale using the channel mixer in monochrome giving higher weight to the highlights in the green channel. I then blurred it heavily, merged it down, and set that layer to soft light. |
hmmmm........personally I like it kicked up a notch. The first one the clouds look very pinkish to me. But this one looks white and vibrant. Good one! Hope you are satisfied with the print when it comes
|
Hey, pretty cool results. I'm learning some about channels myself. I need more practice for sure, though. Seems this could be another method of bumping up the color tones without oversaturating.

Just got it today and it looks as good and richly colored as I hoped it would. I think it looks a lot more natural printed, but it's still very vivid. I wish I could remember who suggested the metallic processing option at Mpix so I could thank them!
I'm not sure how well a picture of a picture in a frame will really come across to express how great the colors came out, but I'll give it a shot: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mister_guy/2461280563/" title="picture of picture by mister.guy, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2186/2461280563_9bb716aa0c_o.jpg" width="600" height="410" alt="picture of picture" /></a> |
Hmm i m not a big fan of that big time oversaturaition of the blues...
i would just oversaturated it a bit, and then tried to detail enhance the texture of the building itself.... could i give this a go? |
I like the vibrant blue and the way it reflects. Makes the building look like an empty shell with the sky showing through.
Lost some detail in the large cloud and its reflection. Could you explain what happens with greyscale layer and it's treatment? THanks |
great job! i love the reflection in the windows. the blue looks really great.

Thanks for the grey layer link. First time I've tried it. I'll have to experiment more.
