Default Dramatic lighting

I was digging in shots from last month and decided to have a go at an old image again. I am pleased with the way it turned out.

SOOC

While the image is interesting on its own it lacked punch and grit overall. Plus the lighting was not the greatest.

After edit in LR3

Now that we had more punch and grit the image still seemed flat and forced. What this image needed was some lighting so I took the image into Auto FX "Mystical Lighting". I used the light caster setting and made the source very narrow to focus the light. I set the fade for a gradual transition to the mattress which gave me a more natural coloring to the light. The texture is smoke #1 with a strength of about 50%.

Final Image

Comments on this would be nice.

Auto FX Mystical Lighting for the final lighting. Thanks for taking the time to look.

I hope you don't mind I had a go with your SOOC image. Working completely in Lightroom I adjusted the WB temperature to -18, tint -22 and using only the graduated filter and adjustment brush tool, I gave it some "Caravaggio lighting". Hope you like it

I do like very much. I had no idea that you could do that in LR

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. Once you start playing with those tools you'll get hooked. Except for a 10x ND I use for long exposure shooting, I don't use ND filters anymore because you can (pretty much) achieve the same results in Lightroom. I think even better because you can place multiple graduated filters to create all kinds of lighting. For example in your shot, I used 3 filters in 3 different directions and exposure settings to create the atmosphere. Keep playing with it. It took me a long time to really get it under control.
