Default Playing around with channel mixer...

I decided to play around with the channel mixer layer mask in Adobe PS CS2, and was trying to make a BW photo. I got a little ambitious with the sliders I think, but I found the result interesting anyway.

So.. Here is the origonal:

31623255.picture1

And the new one:

31623255.picture1

The Values for the channel mixer were ...

R +102
G -102
B +46

Monochrome

..I then applied an unsharp mask with values of 50/50/0 and another at 50/50/10.

The result looks a little dull to me. What I prefer to the channel mixer for black and white conversion is decomposing the picture into three RGB channels and then blending those (using opacity, layer modes and perhaps some work with curves or levels). That lets me see what each channel is contributing to the final picture.

you used a radius of 50 on unsharp mask because that's pretty high it's better to use a lower radius and a higher amount here is something i was reading last night on sharpening http://www.bythom.com/sharpening.htm

Don't know why, but I like the first one better. I think the B&W is a little off for the specific picture.

I tried a different variation.
Monochrome background, layer mask on the face, some desturation on the face, cleaned up the eyes.

See the FAQ - it is easy to post images from Flickr.
