Default Blood Python

This is my first post for a critique.
I'm currently working on getting comfortable with my white balance settings. I took this shot using WB preset mode. The snake is actually under a red heat lamp, with no other light present. I thought it came out interesting color-wise. The WB helped the eye to pop out compared to the original red shot (on my flickr page), kinda reminds me of the velociraptor scene in Jurassic Park.
I'm not so sure about the composition though. There's a lot of condensation on the glass I was shooting through, and a blade of hay/grass in the whole right corner. Is it terribly distracting? I can't seem to find a crop I'm happy with.

All comments/critiques welcome. Feel free to edit/repost.

Yes, the grass is very distracting. There is also a lot of noise due to the low light. I would recommend looking around for a portable light source such as a lamp or flashlight even.

One thing to try with reptiles is to create a comfy environment outside of their cozy den. Create a tiny studio area and toast the spot you want them to sit in with a good light. Just before you place them in the environment, drop some cooled items from the frig or freezer around the area to discourage them from wandering.

Great suggestions. Unfortunately, it's a zoo animal, so restructuring the exhibit is not an option.

Thanks
