you are on the right track. Did you experiment with any more shots of the same subject? I would have lowered my point of view by placing the camera right on the that first 'stump' to really emphasis the perspective. The exposure is tough to improve in this case since you have a both strong darks and bright lights anyway. I would have metered for the dark area and sacraficed the lights in this shot. but that's me.

personally, i don't like random shadows in pictures.
my suggestion would be to back up a bit so that the tree (or whatever that is up top) doesn't cast a shadow, or crop that part out. also, as for composition, perhaps waiting until the shadows do not point straight to the camera (get some cross image action) all in all, i do like the idea and i think the picture is the mark of an eye for photos that will take you far

i like it - might have been cool to get a lower angle and a differnt shadow angle one like people said. but oh well. travel photos arent always the ones which you get the most time for each, as you're doing so much.
