Default Snow

For this shot, I added a little glow to the snow. Then again, when I look at it perhaps I shouldn't have done so. I will let the forum decide...

Hi TGV... I agree with your thoughts, the glow on the snow has to go (hey look at me, a poet and I didn't know it )

But seriously I think the composition is interesting so don't write it off just yet. A perspective crop to straighten the house so that it looks vertical could help as well.

Default Frozen Lake

This is a photo of a frozen lake with tree stumps in Harold Parker State Forest. It reminded me of a lake that would be seen in the Lord of the Rings movie.

I tried capturing the scene slightly from an angle instead of dead centre.

I agree with you, the angle you used for the pond was great. There isn't too much contrast, which helps lend to the 'frozen' mood, but I think to balance that out something in the foreground might help next time.
