wow, swingcat - those are all really great. i love the lighting, the composition - and the ideas! what creative 7th graders! (although i still think the "h-a-n-d-s" one is the best).

Late but here's my attempt. Working with my father on his new toy, an Argo (like an ATV but with 6 wheels). His hands got all greasy and black. He wasn't too thrilled with having me take the picture so the post is forced. Would have liked to get one while he was actually working on the machine but oh well. Light came from one of those garage lights that can be hooked on to something (no idea what they're called), kind of have a cage around the bulb. My sister was holding it though. Enjoy.

Nice picture - the lighting, golden from one side and appearing cyan on the other, is particularly notable and works well to define the shape of the hands.

Say thanks to your assistants!

Thanks Wulf, I was quite pleased with it too. I would have liked the posing to be better but Im not sure how I could have changed it.

IMHO, the posing is fine. The only weakness is that the tops of the fingers appear a little soft; you might have needed to move the focal point a fraction nearer, even if that left the watch and cuffs (not the subject of the shot) gently blurred.

I noticed that the fingertips were a bit fuzzy, I probably should have had tilted the camera more a bit. Hindsight is always 20/20. I can probably bring out some definition in the fingertips by sharpening them. Thanks for the advice I'm really pleased with this shot. It was a "yea, your hands look good there, hold the light Shara! STOP MOVING IT! Ok,... right ther.. no back... yea... ok.. hold.. no you can't make it like a strobe.. dad! Put your hands back! Yea that looks ok.. Shara, LIGHT!.. ok.. steeeady.. don't move.. " *Click* "Don't move yet! Ok.. yep I got it.. AHH you blinded me.. Sharaaaa!!"

Honestly, they both need work on modeling and lighting lol.
