Default My first attempt

I just got my first DSLR (Nikon D90) for Christmas and while browsing a number of digital photography sites I ran into your fine site. I have been going through Nikon D90 For Dummies and was intrigued by the rear curtain synch feature.

I shot the pics in the Manual mode, altho' I readily admit it was mostly trial and error as far as picking a suitable f-stop, shutter speed, ISO, etc. I am still in the complete noob stage in that regard. Same could be said of my editing skills, which are limited to hacking away with Picasa. I have Photoshop so once I get a clue with the camera I'll have to figure out PS as well.

Anyways, here are a few of my attempts. I hope the subject isn't a problem, as I am an avid Russian and Finnish WWII era buff as well.

Default Thought I would share this as well

Over the summer I took a trip to the eastern washington desert to do some fly fishing and upland bird hunting. Nights were cool and clear. I knew I wanted to play a little with longer exposures and came up with the idea of using a long sync flash to do a portrait of us three amigos. The 8 second exposure helped bring out the night sky and the backdrop. I really liked this use of slow sync because there is no motion blur or fuzziness.

Default figured I'd throw a couple of mine in..

I love this technique; use it a lot for shooting performers.
