Default Assignment: Rule of Thirds

Thought I'd take a quick shot to start participating in the assignments... Lurker no more!

I shot this real quick at a traffic light because I liked the colors reflecting off the wet road. I framed it so the street sign (the brightest object) was at the top right intersection.

wait

Having trouble with my EXIF dropping off with jpeg creation so I'll input manually:

Default Assignment: Rule of Thirds

St Kilda Pier

This photo was taken the day of St Kilda Festival in Melbourne, Australia. It was a cold and windy, overcast day. The wind was cold, but with the heat of the previous few days, I'm sure the water would have been warmer for the boys than the outside air.

I structured the pier around the left and lower 'rule of thirds'. This has actually been my first photo to edit, just to crop and play around with a bit. I never knew how fantastic editing software was! All of my shots have been SOOC until this one. I only boosted the saturation a bit, and made it a tighter crop. I like it how this picture makes the whiteness of the sky just disappear into infinity....

Camera: Nikon D60
Lens: 18-55 non-VR kit lens
Exposure: 0.004 sec (1/250)
Aperture: f/5.6
Focal Length: 55 mm
ISO Speed: 100
Exposure Bias: -5 EV
Flash: No Flash
Date and Time (Original): 2009:02:08 14:54:13

Thanks for the view. Glad you liked it. I guess beginner's luck is strong on me on that shot.

Congrats on both! My 50mm macro is on its way here. One more day, one more day, one more day!

Manual mode will bring you so many rewards. Can't wait to see what you create!
Thanks! Your wait will make it so worthwhile. Already manual mode is thrilling the socks off me, it's like I was taking photos through a sock before.

I'm new to all of this and new to photography.
I understand the assignment is closed and anyway I'm nowhere good enough to admit any, I'm just a newbie. Thought I'd put this in tho since it says you can still post more shots.
I think I understood the rule of thirds.
This was taken from the brighton pier. I was mainly there to capture the city of melbourne at night ( or try to) and couldn't resist taking shots of the sunset. I believe the sun is sitting in one of the third vertical lines. I quite liked this shot.
I'm still a noob shooting in the shooting modes until I understand (or try to) understand the rest of it all.
I do hope this works as I'm using the add attachment bit as I don't have a flickr account. As i said I'm new to all of this. well here goes :

Camera: Canon PowerShot A590 IS
Shooting Date/Time: 14/02/2009 8:09:27 PM
Shooting Mode: Sunset
Tv (Shutter Speed): 1/160
Av (Aperture Value): 4.0
ISO Speed : 80(Auto)
Lens: 5.8 - 23.2 mm
Focal Length: 12.7 mm

P.S. Unfortunatly a gust of wind blew up and toppled my tripod and camera over. It was in between taking shots so the lens was out, and it landed right onto its lens I was not a happy camper after that. It still works but the mechanisms of the lens are a little broken, it doesn't sound quite right. But the few weeks I had it I had loads of fun. I am now looking at a SLR.

Sorry that you missed the assignment cut-off - I've been there too.

And really sorry to hear that your camera got damaged.

Chin up, after the pain of the DSLR purchase price, you will love the whole new world of photography that suddenly opens up!
