Okay, I have to ask. What is Shisha? That looks like something I used to puff on, back about 20 years ago, but I don't think it was Shisha in there.:D

Haha, :D very funny to smoke something you don't know its name. here Its like tobacco, but with diffrent of arose.

Since I'm new here I decided to experiment with a self photo. Also gives me something to use as a avatar here and elsewhere. :)

5 seconds at f/8 and ISO 160 on my new Tamron 17-35 f/2.8 @ 35.... Just happened to be the lens I had on the body, so it's what I used. Single exposure using two bursts of a flashlight in a room with the lights off.

Desaturated, bumped up contrast and exposure, and cropped it a bit.

Since discovering photography, I've had very few self-portraits because like everyone else I now prefer to be behind the camera.

This was taken by a friend in Las Vegas last year. I always like to have fun when having my photo taken, thus the shot. After reading the post on stunning portraits today, I'm inspired to try my hand and see what I can do.

I am forever loosing mine I have tied a peice of pink ribbon to it now I find it harder to loose and i just put it around my neck when i need my hands :)

lol I loose them all the time too.. my kids are the ones who find them they are usually shoved in a toy box or the last time they went missing we found em in hubbies work boots :confused:... and the mobile tis all good till the bloody thing goes flat and you cant ring it to find where it is lmfao

Me at my old job two years ago. I shot this before I had my slr. This was shot with a Canon A70 I think.. I was holding my arm out in a curve to get this shot. I like how it does not look like im doing that.

I usually avoid doing self portraits as lenses can be quite expensive :p

I did this one recently as a few old friends asked for an upto date mug shot.

I haven't managed to look through all the posts in this tread yet as there are loads of them but there are some quality self portraits from what I've seen so far :)

Yeah, sorry... I'm afraid I don't have a shirt on...

I was just going to bed and thought (as you do) I'll just see if I can figure out that rear-curtain flash thing. (I can't, btw... is it meant to flash when the shutter opens /and/ when the shutter closes, or have I set it up wrong?)

It is strange how photographers don't like to be photographed... I certainly don't, but it's something I think I need to get better at.

Also, can anyone tell me (or point me towards a tutorial on) how to do those pictures with multiple instances of the same person in them?

It is meant to flash only when the shutter is set to close. If you saw 2 flashes, then you have something set wrong on the camera or the camera is malfunctioning.

Red-eye reduction was what I first thought of, and I'm fairly sure I eliminated that, unless the controls are lying to me.

As for Dave's suggestions, I really hope it's the former as it's not actually my camera :S

I offer a variation on the self portrait: People say I look like my daughter. Only short (as you can see) and blond...but out of a bottle so blond jokes don't apply (hope, hope!). And I'm old. But other than that, I guess we look alike.

Took this one tonight for my Photo Workshop homework. It's supposed to "be both emotional and revealing." I'm hoping that "insomniac, whiskey-swilling, angst-ridden writer with a spectre looming over his shoulder" is emotional and revealing enough.

That is an awesome picture. I think you accomplished your goal. Makes me want to take up drinking just so's I can get a picture like that of myself. And then photograph my road to recovery. Project!

This was before i got a remote so I looked quite silly racing over to the bike and trying to get her stood up before the camera went off. Yes there was snow and yes i ride all year long. Very carefully sometimes tho

There are a lot of great pictures in here! I'm an intermediate photographer who still has a lot to learn, but to me the single most important thing about a self portrait is that you capture who you are.

Self portraits are a challenge... especially when you don't have a remote or clicker for you camera. They can also be a lot of fun. I think photographers can sometimes be the worst subjects to photograph... but I also believe we don't have to be. So those of you who aren't satisfied with your portraits or are afriad to do them, you're a photographer! That means you're an artist! Such a title comes with certain demands to be brave and adventuresome. So whether you're trying for the 50th time or 1st, the road to success is paved with mistakes and failures. It's persistence and confidence that reach the goal. :)

Okay, I'm done now lol. :D

on your photobucket acct, if you click on edit the pic there is an adjustment for a small,med and large, I just forgot to do it on this pic but I did do it on another one for a thread on here, also when you edit the pic you can also crop it to make it smaller, only if there is room to crop of course.

I'm still very much a novice dSLR user but wanted to have a go ....

I do prefer to be behind the camera BUT felt I really need the practise!
I shot this using an infra-red remote control having first played about with shutter speed. I remembered to set white balance for incandescent light and changed metering to centre weighted!
The light on the left of my face comes from low placed bedside lamp - and although I've chopped off my chin (just as well - I have way too many) I wasn't too displeased with the capture.
I did use PSE to sharpen the image a little as not sure I got the focus quite right and I resized the image to be able to post on this website.

Nikon D40
F-stop f/5.3
Exposure 0.77seconds (1")
ISO speed ISO-200
Metering - Centre weighted average
Exposure program - shutter priority
Flash - not used

My first attempt at a self portrait. I like the composition but the lighting is really something to be worked on, maybe a bigger mirror too. One of my weakspots is lighting plus I have an ugly mug...I was tired lol
