Panasonic DMC-FX01 for me; I think if I were to go into DSLR photography however that I'd get either a Canon or a Nikon.

I'm a canon girl.

I started with an Ixus
then upgraded to an Ixus 500
Now I'm learning more about apature and ISO etc so I upgraded to an S3.
One day (hopefully) I'll gain enough experience to upgrade to a DSLR.

Picked up a Canon Rebel 2000 film camera a few years back, so the proper route for me to go is with a Canon digital. Picked up a secondhand 10D not long ago, and have been quite happy with it.

I voted Canon because my DSLR is a Canon Rebel XT that I am desperately trying to learn how to use. Currently I only have the kit lens--hopefully that will change at Christmas:D I also have a Sony DSC-V3 that I adore that I used for a little over a year before I bought the Rebel, however, I find it more neglected than not lately:( I've been letting my kids use it occasionally, and it's smaller size makes it nice for taking around when I don't want to mess with the big boy.

In order of purchase over the years...

- Concord Go2000 something (sold)
- Concord Duo2000 something (gave away)
- HP PS735 (sitting here on desk collecting dust)
- HP R707 or something (sold)
- Casio EX-Z50 (my pocketable camera I still use)
- Casio EX-P600 (bought it when these things were considered *prosumer*, keep in camera bag as backup)
- Canon 10D with 28-200 USM lens (have more lenses, but purchased with that one)

Looked at the new XTi but it just feels so small in my hands. Personally didn't think it was worth the upgrade from the 10D. Will most likely upgrade to another pro model (30D, 20D, 5D).

What can I say, I love the underdog. Pentax *ist DL here.

Tough to get better value for your money on a DSLR than the *ist DL. I think the guy in the camera shop has talked me into the K10D, though :-) I really want something with 10MP, the option of a battery grip, and a CCD that shakes off the dust. Staying with Pentax would allow me to keep my current lenses. I'd probably keep the *ist DL as well ... always nice to not have to swap lenses when shooting events, right :-)

Time to start saving up the pennies.

I own a Konica Minolta Maxxum 5D. Been using the camera for over a year now. Not too sure what my next camera will be because I love the in camera image stabilization. It would be nice if Sony came out with something similar to the Pentax K10D.

This is my second Olympus camers. I had a E-300 until my house was robbed. They took all of my equipment. But I stuck with Olympus and upgraded to the E-500 and have been very satisfied. I am not a pro, but a serious amateur that hopes one day to turn pro.

Originally I had and old Russian made Zenith SLR, then a Canon EOS 500 (film Rebel) SLR. Migrated to digital with a Canon Powershot S50 p&s and now a Canon EOS 350D (Rebel XT) dSLR.

i use a canon rebel xti. i love it!! even though the standard lens isn't the greatest, it still takes pix like a pro, compared to a regular point and shoot that is.

Started off with various point and shoot digitals (Olympus, Ricoh, Kyocera) and then progressed onto my faithful old Fuji Finepix S602Z which kept me going for several years and is still going strong with my youngest daughter (new member Rachy89 who just joined yesterday..)

Last year I finally decided to take the plunge by purchasing my first DSLR, and after toying with the idea of a Pentax 100D and various Canons I eventually opted for the Nikon D80 which I love and am finally learning to use properly.

PKL,

That is an automated "title" for how many posts you have in the forums. You will start with "point and shoot" and when you get past a certain amount of posts, you will move up the "ranks", to DSLR, Nifty-fifty, etc.

I use an Olympus Evolt E-330. My first camera was an Olympus Camedia C-750. I loved that camera passionately, but it was eventually stolen (from my desk at work - lovely), so I bought the Evolt and then bought an identical Camedia to have as a backup. The two work really well together: the Camedia goes places like my purse that the Evolt is too large for; the Camedia has better zoom capabilities if I really need them; and the Evolt has the wonderful power and flexibility of a DSLR.

I used Canon back when I first started. I had been planning to get a Canon (probably XTi) when I decided to buy a DSLR, but after shopping around for a while I decided on an Olympus. I ended up going with the E410 and I love it.

The P880 isnt too bad I guess but I get a little confused with the preset dial and all the other fidgeting that you can do

Also, the electronic viewfinder is not a great invention...I wonder who came up with that and thought it would be good to have

I have a Nikon D50. I bought it about a year and a half ago. I've been generally happy with it and I've considered upgrading to something else... but decided that it made more sense to get better glass. To that end, I have a Tokina 12-24mm f/4, a Nikkor 18-200mm VR. These two lenses I keep with me always. I also have a 50mm f/1.8 that I really like. Excellent glass and good speed. Considering bang for the buck, it's the best lens of all.

I'm just wondering what type of camera's people shoot with. What type of camera do you use, have you tried any others, and which brand do you prefer to shoot with?

I just "upgraded" from a D40 to a D80 for school. I'm shooting with the kit lenses i got with the D40, 18-55mm and 55-200mm. Now, I'm saving up for a couple speed lights since I also bought my daughter a D40 with the same kit lenses, along with a tripod each.

I did try the XTi in the store. Since I was familiar with the Nikon menus and I like the second command wheel, I stayed with Nikon. :)

I use the Nikon for the nice pictures, since it's the newest camera, but I still love and carry my Olympus p&s. It fits nicely in my purse or pocket, so I can have it everywhere, and takes very nice pictures. The DSLR is nice, of course, but bulkier (for all that it's lightweight), and I still haven't found a way to carry it with me while having my hands basically free (as a mami needs to have most days).
Does anyone else carry a camera virtually everywhere?? My family thinks this is strange, but it's a habit I picked up as a teacher and haven't given up yet.

Oh yes!! I have a great Canon Rebel XT digital SLR with several excellent lenses, but find myself paralyzed by what to carry -- mentally and physically :)

So I never leave home without my crazy little Traveler point and shoot (which I got at Aldi's of all places) Actually it often produces quality equal to the Canon.

My sister used to have an N80, and we bought her a 70-200mm lens. So when it came time to buy a camera, I bought Nikon so I could use that lens. Nikon N80 (film). 6 months later after spending hours and hours in the dark room, I decided it was time to go digital, and I bought a Nikon D60, and am still able to use that same lens.

Currently I won and use 3 Konica Minolta's: 2-7D's and 1- A2.......as far as I am concern the A2 is the best Prosumer P/S ever produced....not only does it have spectacular optics but it is the ONLY camera I have ever used that has a true floating (movable ) focus point.......no needing to ever focus on the particular point of interest and then recompose the shot.....get composition move focus pt and press shutter release.......I am afraid that is one bit of KM that will just be lost in the wind.....just like Fujinons EBC lens coating........

I will be moving my DSLR investment to Nikon real soon.......now that there is a FF I will be able to afford.....I can almost feel that D700 in my hands.............

This is one of those questions that must be "too dumb to ask." I am a first time user of a digital camera. Having purchased a Canon SD950 IS and after reading the Owners Manual with much difficulty I'm horribly frustrated and can't find anywhere in the manual that identifies how to set a resolution of 72(which I understand is all I need for internet use to create auctions to sell on eBay). All photos I take have 180 resolution (according to Photoshop Image Size Resolution) no matter what I do with the only means that I can find in the Owners Manual to "select a resolution setting"...Large, Medium 1, Medium 2, Medium 3, Small. When I reduce to 72 resolution with Photoshop my picture reduces to about 25% of its original size. Any help anyone can offer would be very much appreciated. Happy Independence Day! Cheers, Edward

While changing resolution from 180 to 72, go back to 'width' and 'height' fields and enter your desired values.

Yes - every time somebody gives a recommendation, check to see what they are using themselves. Most people want you to join their "tribe" rather than having impartially tested a range of different cameras before reaching their conclusion.

I thoroughly recommend the Nikon D40, by the way.... ;)

My first camera was Canon T50 that was in the late 80's. I was not able to learn any because the prints and film was so expensive then.

Four years ago when my family decided to take a vation to Hawaii I bought a Fuji 5100 without really thinking. I just bought it.

I love to take pictures just for memory thing, no big deal, not untill I started reading about digital photography and got hooked.
Now I have a new digital camera. I am a four month old proud and happy owner of a Canon EOS 40D.

Right now I am relearning SLR and learning DSLR Photography.
