I've got the camera body and lens choices narrowed down finally! Here are the two options:

(1.) Canon Rebel XT from Beach Cameras for $457 + Sigma 18-125mm lens from BHPhotoVideo for $280. Total: $737.

OR

(2.) Canon Rebel XTi from Beach Cameras for $600 + Sigma 18-125mm lens from BPhotoVideo for $280. Total: $880.

I don't know why I didn't see the 18-125mm at BH before but it sure brings the XTi down into the workable price range category and makes the XT definately affordable - all while giving me a very workable zoom range!

Thoughts, comments, recommendations, warnings?

My thought is that you should leap up, run out of your house and go buy a camera.:)

At high ISOs, I've seen some things saying that the xti actually performs worse than the xt (see here for one of the comparisons (http://www.cameralabs.com/reviews/Canon400D/page4c.shtml)). But that's the only big difference I've heard talked about. :) Congrats for narrowing your choice down!

Considering the XTi costs only $100+ more, I'd say get the XTi.

I bought my XTi in June and couldn't be happier. Good luck with whichever you go with and I look forward to seeing your shots!

I'll have to check out that article on the ISO issues, but other than that, I think I'm leaning toward the XTi. I'll find the extra $ somewhere.

Gotta wait on buying the cam at least for a few more days just to give my current cam a chance to sell. Then I will likely get the lens from BHPhoto and the cam from Beach Camera - unless anyone can give me a reason to avoid that?

Also, other than it not being an EF or L grade lens, there's no bad news about the Sigma lens listed above right?

Here's to a soon purchase!

Well from the reviews I've seen on the web it's a very sharp lens for the price. There's a little vingetting and barrel/pincushion distortion, but that's correctible. Most people seem to find the focusing motor a little slow and noisy, since it isn't HSM.

One weird thing I noticed, however, is that this lens isn't listed on Sigma's webpage!?:confused:

I think it's a discontinued lens - so I wanna get it soon. The other sites don't sell it.
