I found this great tutorial on an aviation photography forum I also belong to from Layers Magazine. It's really a great and easy way of correcting the color on your image, especially those of us (*cough* *cough* me *cough*) that have laptops. That is an interesting method. I had a quick play (adjusting it for use on The GIMP, where you use levels rather than curves to set black, grey and white points). One note is that the details of the tutorial matter a lot. On my first attempt, it came out looking very extreme; on the second go, with a bit more care, the result was much more pleasing.
