How much effort to get a shot?

Although I don't have any personal stories to share on this topic yet, I found myself wondering how much effort some people go through to get a good shot? Is there a particular shot that you got that required a considerabale amount of effort, or time, or both? What are some of the more extreme lengths you've gone through to get a good shot?

i will go to what ever length it takes to get a shot.. draging hubby and baby around.. limits me sometimes tho...
but my hummer shot took 3 weeks to get.. sitting still for 2 hours every day for those 3 weeks... to get the little girl used to me and my big buzzing camera ( she thinks it was another hummer)...lol

Nearly got arrested trying to get a shot of the LIRR train tracks and of course I didn't get the shot because I was trying to talk the police out of taking my camera.

In NY they do not like you taking pictures of bridges, trains and planes for obvious reasons of course.
