This photograph was taken using Nikon D70s, 18-70 lense.
Shot with available light. Many people shouted at meas to how I could take a photograph of my daughter when she was in such a depressive mood. But what I feel that photography is not just limited to take pleasant moods. Every mood should be captured. I just would like to know how other photographers react to it.
Shot as colour, converted to BW in photoshop, increased brightness, contarst and intensity slightly.
But for that...there are no major off the camera enhancements.

this has a big expression. I just love the photo.
I think you are right. I always shoot my boyfriend in a bad mood (he hates to be taken picture of) :)

Seena,
The black-and-white, perfect. I will say what you probably know: depression is color drained out of life. As a nearly lifelong member of that club, this expression speaks volumes to me. And "pretty" pictures can be had for a dime a dozen. We enjoy them, but we NEED your photos to give perspective to life. Photos can be improved by equipment; lives are a bit more difficult. If there is anything I can say or do for you, let me know.
What did your daughter think of the photo?

Wow! Did you capture the mood?
You did, and had done very well.
The image conveys exactly the emotion at the moment of capture.
Converting it to monocrome surely helped in doing the job.

I like this one. The b&w captures the mood and it's not a typical "smile for the camera" shot. It definitely makes you wonder about the story behind it.

As photographers we all capture life and it's not all happy advertising smiles. Well done on capturing a beautiful, if dark moment. Art is reaction and emotion.

I find this very evocative of the pain and lonliness of depression - very identifiable. The B&W is a perfect choice. A brave shot!!

I agree, converting the pic to BW added a lot to it.
Nice shot...

I like this picture. It's not your typical happy portrait shot and I appreciate that. It was definitely smart to switch to B&W.
