View Full Version : Caption my photo!
Seltzer
07-04-2007, 05:39 PM
Ok, since Jiminy mentioned it (http://digital-photography-school.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3448#3) I thought we could make this happen. The purpose of this is to have fun! Basically someone puts a photo up of anything (best choices being something that could have an amusing caption) and the next person captions it and then posts another photo to be captioned. Try not to offend or be offended as this is all in good fun. If someone notices a photo that they wanted to caption but missed, as always feel free to post what you thought the caption should be but the next photo to be captioned still belongs to the first response per photo!
And now we start:

Seltzer, explain Cthulhu?
Cthulhu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu) is a creature from HP Lovecraft's books. It's kind of like a winged octopus like reptile thing. See the picture at the Wikipedia article and their description of how Cthulhu is used as a pop culture reference.
Now, in my search to find the Wikipedia link or any other link that explained it better than I could, I also found the "Tales of the Plush Cthulhu (http://www.logicalcreativity.com/jon/plush/01.html)" which I highly recommend... if only because it's about as twisted as my own sense of humour :p

Generally the first person to caption, posts the next photo after about 24 hours. If you are first and have no photo, you can pass, to let anyone else with a photo post. One a day works best. Like most threads, you can post captions to past photos, If you click on the post number (upper right corner, this is #135) you get a link to copy and paste in your caption post. So, new day:

Jen473, Welcome
It's OK, you can post anytime. Sometimes we give a little breathing room before posting a new photo, with the understanding that the first reply gets the option of posting next (or passing). As long as everyone knows what you're captioning, it's fine.
(On Flickr I had three of these in a row and comments began with "SSSssssss.")

When several photos get posted all within a day, this does become confusing. If you wait 24 hours (Friday noon, EST) before adding your next photo, this thread could continue. Caption this one if you want, or any past post, giving a link to that photo.

Buffalo on the left: "Get out of the way, she is taking a picture of me."
Buffalo on the right: "Quit being a camera hog, she is taking a picture of me!"
Both say together: "Lets go ask her!"
They head your way then one looks at the other and says " Damn she runs fast."

Palachandra,
Television writers, standup comedians, funny movies, good books, people I talk with, an overactive imagination, way too little sleep and too much caffeine, a sense of the ridiculous, an eye for body language, story-telling 101, and occasionally out of left field or a clear blue sky: these are all ripe with human connections to images and language.
Funny is in the eye of the beholder, too.

Start with a relaxed (empty?) mind, let thoughts play, relate to everything you've ever seen or heard you thought was funny, have no shame, take your time but write each thought quickly before it evaporates, take smaller sips of coffee to prolong your lifespan.
