I don't think I use a flash enough when it may help improve some of my photos. I recently purchased a 430ex for my Canon 350d. What are some suggestions or techniques you use to improve flash photography?
Cheers,
Matt

I use a jessops flash that has full manual capability. And that's how I shoot - manual.
My camera just won't read any scene properly using flash so I go fully manual.
I also covered the flash with tracing paper to diffuse it. That's well worth doing to take the hardness off the light!

i also planned on putting some transparent paper over it to diffuse the light.

not too transparent, the flash is really powerful!
here (http://strobist.blogspot.com/2006/10/free-and-so-easy-diy-grid-spots-for.html)you can see something to make your light "sweeter"

Bouce the flash whenever you can, and if possible get the flash off the camera. Then head over to Strobist website to learn a lot more than you could learn in this thread.
