Hi Sime
I have only recently gotten interested in close up stuff, I bought a set of close up filters off Ebay, only cost me £20 delivered, that was for a +1, +2, +4 and a +10 close up filter, and 2 screw on wide angle hoods. I thought it was a bargain :). I've just invested in a 2ft square pop up light tent/cube for close up stuff, that only cost me £9.98 delivered off ebay ! :) Has 4 different backgrounds, and all comes in a handy zipped bag. In fact I only started looking after seeing the tutorial on here on how to make one, I am so lazy ! Mind you I still have to build the big box with the foil all inside to put the tent in for the extra light, thats a great idea. On my local forums the subject this week was feathers, so used the close up stuff again to get this for my entry.

Thanks knickers71uk, actually I took a series of feather shots and only decided on that one last minute, I didn't like it straight away, it almost got binned, but its grown on me now and is currently the background on my laptop :)

Hi Damo,

I was trying to take sum snaps similar to this the other day, how did u get the light from the lamp to be so soft and directional? especially on the feather photo... or did you use a different light source?

Thanks

Hiya, no exactly the same set up as the dandelion clock, it was hand held, using a +10 close up filter on my 28-90mm lens, using the clip spotlight directly overhead but angled toward me and to the left for the spotlight effect. the background card was actually flat to the table for the feather one. I used shutter priority at 1/640, -0.3 step (to hold back the clipping and keep the card nice and black in the background), ISO 200, F/5. The original shot came out a little too warm for me so reduced the temperature slightly and burnt in the tips of the feathers to give them more interest. Hope thaty helps, please post one of yours if you get the chance, would love to see some.
