Where Was it Taken?
In our dining room during a blackout caused by the Typhoon Milenyo.
What settings did you use?
Macro mode, f/2.8, 1/250, 7.7mm, ISO400
What gear (camera, lens etc) did you use?
Canon Powershot SD550 p&s cam
Why did you compose the shot as you did?
I wanted to get the flame, wick and the stem of the candle fading off into the darkness
What post production work have you done on the shot (if any)?
Resizing and brightness/contrast adjustment in photoshop
What were you hoping to achieve with the shot?
I was aiming to get a typical candle flame shot but I also wanted to get the blue flame, wick detail and the bright orange at the end of the wick without burning the camera...
What did you do well?
I was happy to be able to capture the wick details with the flame upright after numerous tries.
How could you have improved it?
I should have set it up on a tripod and lowered the ISO to get a finer flame, and I should also have waited for more wax to develop.
Next time maybe I'll choose a cleaner candle.
Also, if I had more patience I would have tried for a more upright flame.
:)
