I realize many folks are posting about the high end equipment. But a question for those at the low end: any idea why Canon (powershot A530) has such horrible flash recycle times? I have other digicams with 2-AA batteries which recharge much more quickly. Its a glaring black mark on an otherwise outstanding low-end camera.

Are the batteries fully charged and hold a charge? Just because you left it on the charger for 4 hours doesn't mean it's fully charged. The battery could be at the right voltage but just doesn't have the right amperage anymore. That would cause slow recycle times because it will take longer to charge the capacitor that holds power for when it's time to flash.

You might check your SN on the cam, especially if it does appear to be draining batteries. See if it goes with the Canon Alert at http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=PgComSmModDisplayAct&fcategoryid=218&modelid=13390&keycode=2111&id=28799
