I am currently travelling on a round-the-world trip. As photography wasn't the main focus of this trip - although I'm getting into it more and more, I decided not to take my tripod and try to keep my gear lighter and less cumbersome.

I've since purchased a Gorillapod and wanted to recommend it to others. There's so many palces where you get a fence or a tree and not a flat surface to be able to use a traditional mini tripod. It supports my Canon EOS 300D with a small lense (not with the 75-300) and has been useful for loads of extra low light shots. I'm even confident enough now to mount it on fences over water !!!

Hope it helps you guys like it's helped me if you are trying to compromise your gear whilst travelling!!

hey matt, thanks for your suggestion. I recently got the DSLR Zoom version and am just starting to use it around the house to test. I was pretty amazed at pictures on the joby website - I don't know if I could stomach putting my camera in those positions, but your endorsement definitely gives me more confidence in the gorillapod.
