Hello Everyone.

I just stumbled across this site because of the Christmas Photography Tips link from Lifehacker.com. I spent some time browsing around and am impressed with not only the site itself, but the library of knowledge to be found here in these forums.

Anyhow, just wanted to introduce myself and ask that y'all offer a little patience because I am a total rookie behind the camera, but have secretly harbored the desire to take "good" pictures for several years--but 99% of the pictures I've ever taken have been in auto mode. So I'm going to be asking a lot of questions, but a lot of them will probably be of the 'remedial' type.

One motivation is that I've recently started dating a gal who is a professional photographer by trade, owns her own studio and all that, and I'm trying to get up to speed so that she doesn't have to dumb it down so much when I ask her questions. She's a great resource, but I really want to get some outside knowledge, too.

Another motivation is that I live here in Las Vegas, and the daily opportunities for interesting photographs are unlimited.

Anyhow, I'm glad I stumbled onto this site and look forward to eventually becoming a contributor instead of just a sponge.

Thanks!

Mikey

If it makes you feel any better, the picture that won me the blue ribbon at the state fair was taken in auto mode:) As was my first picture that made it into Explore over on Flickr. Auto mode on a good camera knows what it's doing!

Nice to meet ya!
